Latest News…

The Offertory Collections last weekend amounted to £310.50 including a donation of £20. The special collection  for the Turkey/Syria earthquake appeal raised the magnificent total £765.81 - grateful thanks to all donors.  Next week the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception will be visiting the parish to make their appeal.

Parish Pastoral Council - All are warmly invited to attend the next meeting of the PPC! Whether you’ve been involved before or not, and whether you’re new to the parish or you’ve attended St Mary’s for years, your input is much needed! No experience or expertise is required; just an enthusiasm to share ideas and make our parish the best it can be!

The next meeting of the PPC will take place at 7pm on Monday 13th March in the church hall. For more information, speak to Callum or email callum.timms@rcboness.org. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sacramental Preparation - Thanks to everyone who attended the recent parental information evening for those preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Information evenings will be held for parents/carers of children preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation (Primary 7) on Tuesday 7th March after Stations of the Cross at 7pm, and for First Communion (Primary 4) on Wednesday 3rd May at 7pm. 

If your child is preparing for these sacraments but does not attend St Mary’s RC Primary School, please email callum.timms@rcboness.org as soon as possible. 

Lent talks - Discover Jesus Christ in the Servant Songs of Isaiah with four online talks from the Archdiocese. They are hosted by Fr Jamie McMorrin of St Margaret’s, Davidson’s Mains, and Sr Anna Marie McGuan RSM and take place at 7:30pm on Wednesday 15, 22 March. Lent Retreat - A retreat titled Encountering Jesus will take place at St Kentigern’s Church, Parkgrove Avenue, Barnton, Edinburgh. It is led by Fr Bart Parys, a Divine Word Missionary based in Ireland and it will help you draw closer to Jesus in Lent. Fri 24 Mar 7:30pm - 8:30pm; Sat 25 Mar 10:00am - 3:00pm; Sun 26 Mar 9:30am - 11:00am. No registration required.

Mass - Relics of Padre Pio - Relics of Padre Pio are touring Scotland (including his gloves and bloodstained bandages). They will be in the Archdiocese on Friday 24 March at 7:00pm at Ss John Cantius & Nicholas, West Main Street, Broxburn. There will be Holy Mass and a chance to receive an individual blessing with the relics. A special invitation is extended to the sick and the suffering. Teas/coffee served in church hall afterwards.

Archdiocesan Stations of the Cross - This takes place on Monday 3 April at 7:45pm on Zoom. It is a chance pray for all pro-life intentions and includes a reflection from Archbishop Leo Cushley. Register at bit.ly/stations2023

Palm Sunday - Archbishop Leo Cushley hosts a talk on Palm Sunday on Monday 27 March at 7:30pm. It is for those who want to better understand the background to the liturgy of the day and prepare for it. Register for this Zoom talk at bit.ly/palmsundaytalk

Vocations Mass - The Archdiocesan Mass for Vocations is a chance to pray that more young people answer God’s call to the priesthood and religious life. The next one takes place at 5:15pm on Monday 6 March at St Albert’s chaplaincy, 24 George Square, Edinburgh. Refreshments served after Mass.

Human Rights - A Way to God - A talk by Jesuit lawyer Fr Luis Pérez from Mexico takes place on Wednesday 8 March at 7pm in person and online at Sacred Heart Church, Lauriston Street, Edinburgh. Learn about the plight of mothers who lost children through forced disappearances and extra-judicial killings committed by the military and organised crime in Mexico. More at https://edinburghjesuit.org.uk/ejc

Feast of St John Ogilvie - The feast of St John Ogilvie, Jesuit priest and martyr of the Scottish Reformation, is celebrated on Friday 10 March. The Jesuits at Sacred Heart Church in Edinburgh (Lauriston Street) celebrate Mass at 7:00pm with Fr Jamie McMorrin as guest preacher and music from Edinburgh University Chamber Choir. Reception after Mass. All welcome.
