Latest News…
The Offertory Collections last weekend amounted to £544.90, grateful thanks to all donors. The collection at the Crib over Christmastide raised £98.30 which has been sent to the Archdiocese for amalgamation into the Archbishop’s Christmas Charities collection. Bo’ness Salvation Army has written to say a big ‘Thank You’ for our donations of toys and money for the Christmas Appeal. Sixty-Four families were helped, and 144 individual gifts were distributed.
200 Club: We are collecting the 2024 subscriptions to the 200 Club at Masses today – the price of an individual entry remains at £13 for the year. With more members we can increase the value of the monthly prizes as well as those special prizes that we draw in the Summer and at Christmas. The first draw of the year will take place after Mass this Sunday.
Sacraments As children at St Mary’s Primary School begin to prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, please note the following dates:
- Parental Information Evening for the Sacrament of Reconciliation: 16th January at 7pm
- Parental Information Evening for the Sacrament of Confirmation: 6th February at 7pm
- Parental Information Evening for First Holy Communion: 16th April at 7pm
- Celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation: 13th March at 7pm
- Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation: 24th April at 7pm in Christ the King, Grangemouth
- Celebration of First Holy Communion: 2nd June at 1pm
Please ensure that you have completed a registration form for your child if they are to be welcomed into any of the sacraments this year. Typically, children will make their first Reconciliation in primary 3, receive First Holy Communion in primary 4 and be Confirmed in primary 7. If your child does not attend St Mary’s, please make sure that the parish is aware by speaking to any passkeeper or emailing Callum.Timms@staned.org.uk.
Explore God’s will Thinking about a vocation to the religious life? Join other young Catholic women to chat and explore God's will in monthly get-togethers in Edinburgh. Led by Sr Mirjam Hugens FSO, the first one takes place on Sunday 28 January, 4-7pm at St Columba’s, 9 Upper Gray Street. It is a chance to pray, share and discuss in a relaxed environment, and refreshments will be served. The series continues same time/venue: 25 Feb, 17 Mar, 21 Apr, 12 May and 22 June. New Dawn in Scotland hosts a one-day conference and parish healing service at Ss John Cantius & Nicholas Parish in Broxburn on Saturday 3 February. The day will include: Speakers are Fr Frankie Mulgrew, former comedian and a priest from the Diocese of Salford, and Terry Quinn, an International Catholic Evangelist and bible scholar. No registration fee, just turn up on the day (donations welcome).
Save the date The Archdiocesan Valentine’s Retreat for Married and engaged couples will take place at St Kentigern’s Church, Parkgrove Avenue, Barnton, Edinburgh, on Saturday 10 February 2024. Details to follow soon.
The February Mass in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes takes place at 3pm on Sunday 4 February at St John the Baptist Church, 37 St Ninian’s Road, Corstorphine, Edinburgh EH12 8AL. The Mass is organised by the Edinburgh Lourdes Pilgrimage team. Refreshments in hall afterwards. All welcome
Event The Bishops’ Conference of Scotland Committee for Interreligious Dialogue hosts its Annual Colloquium Residential from Friday 23 February to Saturday 24 February 2024. It takes place at the Conforti Centre in Coatbridge and this year’s theme is The Role Of Religious Experience In Interreligious Dialogue.
