Fr Forrest is taking some well-earned rest this weekend. We extend our gratitude to Fr Jamie Boyle from St Francis Xavier’s in Falkirk who celebrated the funeral Mass of Anne Jackson on Friday, and we welcome back Fr Henry McLaughlin who will celebrate this weekend’s Vigil Mass, and we thank Fr David Stewart SJ from the Jesuit parish of the Sacred Heart in Lauriston, Edinburgh, who will celebrate this Sunday’s 10am Mass. We also wish Fr Forrest a very happy birthday this Sunday, and look forward to celebrating with him soon!

Children’s Liturgy: A big welcome back to our children’s liturgy today after the school holidays. We hope you all had a great break and that you are all eager for the new term ahead. The liturgy team have lots planned for you and we hope that you will enjoy learning all about our faith.

Safeguarding: All parish volunteers who routinely work with children or vulnerable adults must have completed the safe recruitment process before beginning their ministry. This means a PVG check which must be updated every 5 years, completing an application form and undergoing Induction Training (Part 1). Within 18 months of beginning your role, you must also compete Induction Training (Part 2). If you require safeguarding training, please contact Callum Timms by emailing callum.timms@staned.org.uk as soon as possible. The next training session for Part 1 is 2pm on Sunday 28th August, and for Part 2 is Saturday 3rd September at 10am. These sessions will take place online.

Home Visits: During the pandemic, restrictions prevented ministers from distributing Holy Communion to the homes of sick and housebound parishioners. We would now like to resume this important ministry, and would invite any additional volunteers who would like to support with this either as an Extraordinary Minister to distribute Holy Communion, or as a befriender to spend time with housebound parishioners or accompany Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Those wishing to continue with this ministry or new volunteers should speak to Callum so
that a list can be compiled and safeguarding requirements can be met.

The Relics of St Bernadette will be visiting Carfin Grotto from 24th September until 2nd October. During this time there will also be the National Pilgrimage to Carfin on Sunday 25th September when the Bishops of Scotland will celebrate Mass at 3pm, followed by a Rosary Torchlight Procession at 6pm. Some parishioners have expressed an interest in attending – if you would be interested in travelling together for this occasion, please add your name to the list in the church hall.

The Beginning Experience: The ‘Beginning Experience’ is holding a weekend for those who find themselves suffering bereavement through divorce, separation or widowhood. The weekend will take place from 30th September to 2nd October 2022 at the Conforti Centre, Coatbridge. For details contact Catherine on 0131 665 3383 or email: beginningexperiencescotland@hotmail.com. Completed applications must be returned by 16th September 2022.

Margaret Sinclair: The national Venerable Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage is on Sunday 18 September. Find out more about this holy Edinburgh woman at www.margaretsinclair.scot

A Prayer for Peace in Ukraine: O Loving God, your Son, Jesus Christ, came into the world to do your Will and leave us His Peace. Through the intercession and example of our Blessed Mother Mary, Queen of Peace, grant us the wisdom and humility to reflect that peace to the world. Inspire our thoughts, words, and deeds to bear witness to your presence in our hearts. May your Holy Spirit fill us with every grace and blessing so that we may pursue what leads to peace for all humanity. Amen
